The community of Atkinsons sits on the west side of Clearlake Road and the north side of School Street. The area is more commercial than residential with numerous auto and motorcycle repair shops. A large part of the neighborhood to the west is heavily wooded. There are several homes here, most of which are stick-built, but nearby is a vast mobile home community and the Coca-Cola bottling plant. It's a bit of a rough area to go walking in and you may want to take a walking partner with you.
When the pantry starts to look a little low, there is Harvey's Supermarket on the corner of Clearlake Road and Dixon Boulevard. Alternatively, you can go east on Dixon to the Sav-a-Lot discount supermarket. For anything more, there is a Walmart Supercenter at the end of Clearlake Road. Here, you should be able to find most of the things your family needs, including food, treats, and toys for your canine companion.
Atkinsons is located in a rough area of town with multiple repair shops, large areas of junk vehicles, and a huge mobile home park nearby. The few homes here are spread out along three roads, none of which have any sidewalks for you and your dog to use. Clearlake Road is a vital and bustling road that runs most of the way through the town. There are sidewalks on both sides of this particular street for you and your dog to make good use of on your day-to-day excursions.
Given the nature of this area and the proximity of the mobile home park to the north, you should consider taking a walking partner with you if you choose to walk early in the morning or late in the evening. With no sidewalks for you to use, you'll want to beat the traffic before it gets too busy in this neighborhood.
Immediately to the west of the few homes in the region is a large area of woods with a couple of small lakes for you and your dog to hike to. You should find plenty of trails to explore as they go farther into the woods than most people are up to walking. The woodlands spread far to the west, but again, you may want to walk with a friend to easily find your way back home.
Less than five minutes to the south is Pluckebaum Road, home of Barks and Recreation, the local dog park. This dog park sits in front of a large lake surrounded by grass and woods. The two of you can use the area around the lake for long walks. The park itself is divided in two, with separate areas for small and large dogs to run around off-leash. Each zone has a water fountain for the pups and plenty of seating in the shade to enjoy.
