Wag! Walkers know Cocoa North
Cocoa North is a vast residential area on the north side of
SR-524 by the Eastern Florida State College Fred Gay Golf Academy. This area
was developed, beginning in the 1980s with modest suburban homes on reasonably
large lots. As the community was developed, several small lakes were incorporated
into the design. However, all of the lakes are off limits by order of the city.
No matter what you need in terms of basics, you can find it nearby at a Publix Supermarket, a Walmart Supercenter, and an ALDIs to the east. All of these amenities are within five to ten minutes of your home, depending
on where it is located within Cocoa North. There is a vast area of woods
on the south side of SR-528 and two dog parks within a fifteen minute drive where your dog can enjoy being off-leash. This area is great for dog owners and their playful pups!
What is the terrain like in Cocoa North?
One of the first things you'll notice about Cocoa North is
that all the streets have a sidewalk on at least one side. This is something you
won't find in many of the communities in town. Given that this is a working
family community, you should find they come in very handy, depending on when
you go for walks with your dog.
There are two tumultuous periods of traffic during
the day. The first is in the morning during rush hour and the second is in the afternoon. You may want to postpone walks during less busy times.
The sidewalks will help keep the two of you safe, but with the flat terrain in this area making it fairly easy to navigate, you may find more pedestrians taking their own excursions through the neighborhood. Keep this in mind if your pooch is particularly nervous about running into strangers.
How many greenways are there in Cocoa North?
There is one tiny park on the corner of SR-528 and Westminster
Drive. Inside, there is a small amount of grass around the basketball and tennis courts and a parking lot. The park also has a paved walking trail that is connected to the
sidewalks in the community and the walking trail that runs along the highway.
On the south side of SR-528, there is a vast area of undeveloped
woods with numerous trails running through them. You and your dog would not be
the first ones to use the trails to take long hikes in the shade. However, you should
be aware that these woods can be inhabited by several different animal species ,including alligators and black bears. Neither of
these animals are friendly and they should be left alone. Keep your pup on a leash as you wander over these trails to avoid running into any wildlife.
