Top dog walkers in Forest Hill
Wag! Walkers know Forest Hill
Forest Hill is a small residential neighborhood located on US-1, just south of the junction with Forrest Avenue. On the other side of US-1 is a tire service and a DIY storage facility. The neighborhood is also home to a religious facility that takes up the entire length of the neighborhood on Forrest Avenue. The one advantage to this is that you and your dog can probably go for walks on the grounds when there aren't any services going on.
Shopping is only a few minutes to the north or south on US-1, depending on preference. To the south, there is a Publix Supermarket where you can stock up on your favorite foods. To the north is Dixon Boulevard where there is a Sav-a-Lot supermarket, a Tractor Supply Company, and several other stores and restaurants for you and your family to check out. The area is ideal for walking with your canine companion.
What is the terrain like in Forest Hill?
Being situated between US-1 and Forrest Avenue means being stuck between two bustling thoroughfares that only seem to slow down in the wee hours of the morning. US-1 is a major highway that runs the entire length of the eastern seaboard! There are sidewalks running along both sides of these two roads that you and your dog can use for walks, but only if your dog is used to the noise of heavy traffic.
You should always use a short leash when walking along any busy road. Not only will a short leash give you more control over your dog, but it will also give your dog a sense of security that may reduce the risk of a reaction to the traffic. In Florida, especially during the warmer months, the best time of day to go for long walks with your dog is early in the morning before the temperature and traffic start to heat up.
How many greenways are there in Forest Hill?
The nearest green space is the grass around the church, but since this is private property, you may not be permitted to walk your dog there. However, if you walk east of Sunrise Drive to Indian River Boulevard, right across the street along the riverbank is a wide swath of grass that runs for miles in either direction. Much of this strip is nice and shady, making it a great place to take your dog for walks. You get to watch the boats on the river and your dog gets to walk on grass instead of pavement!
On the other side of US-1 is Bracco Park. This park is home to three of the five large water retention ponds that are used to feed fresh water to the wastewater treatment plant. Each of the lakes in the park has a paved trail around it, plus you can follow the trail around all the lakes when you're in the mood for a long walk with your pooch.
