Wag! Walkers know Indian Hill
The community of Indian Hill is a circular neighborhood of upscale, single-family homes located between US-1 and Indian River
Drive. The houses all sit on a single road that is more of a
rectangle with round corners. There is one entrance on Indian River Drive and one from
US-1. The yards are larger than average and most are heavily shaded to
help keep them cool during the heat of the day.
If you need supplies, shopping is close at hand. The Walmart
Supercenter and Publix supermarket are both less than a ten-minute drive on Clearlake Boulevard. Both of these stores carry plenty of choices
in food for every member of your family, including the one with the permanent
fur coat. A little south on US-1, there is a Tractor Supply in a strip mall that
carries many of the brands of dog food tthat you can't buy
in either of the supermarkets, along with many other supplies.
What is the terrain like in Indian Hill?
Indian Hill is a working family neighborhood without any
sidewalks; something a little unusual in an upscale area. It means that you and your dog will be reduced to walking on the road running
around the community. Traffic here is going to be busy for a little while during
the morning and evening rush hours during the week.
You can, of course, take your dog east and across to the
other side of Indian River Road. Here, you will find a wide area of grass between the
road and the Indian River that is essentially the riverbank. It runs for miles
to the north, giving you and your dog a safe place to walk without having to worry
about traffic. This being
said, no matter where you take your dog for walks, do the smart thing and use a
short leash. This will give you far
more control should something, or someone, startles your pooch.
How many greenways are there in Indian Hill?
Immediately to the northwest of the community, there is an
area of trees, scrub, and grass that many people use to take their dogs for
walkies. It's not very big, but there is just enough room to go for a hike in the woods together.
On the other side of US-1, there are a couple of lakes and
trails for you and your dog to spend time hiking around and along. Access is
via Michigan Avenue and then Cocoa Lakes Drive. Those who drive here to walk
their dogs park alongside the road and the area along the first part of the trail.
The trail leads into the woods, along I-95, back into the woods, and then
out into the open and around the lakes.
There are several other parks in the city, many of which are
open to dogs. In this region, you have plenty of options whether you'd walk or drive to them.
