Riviera Oaks is a small neighborhood of moderate-sized homes, many of which were built in the 70s and 80s. These ranch-style single-family homes are sitting on large yards, but the streets have no sidewalks. There is a Pet Paradise pet shop right across S. Nova Road where you can buy just about anything your dog needs. However, if you want to eat out, you have to drive to find anything that is not a fast food restaurant.
Holly Hill is an older community that, like much of this area, suffered heavy job losses during the recession. To the east is the Riviera Country Club and Golf course. To the south is a vast area of woodland along with the Riviera Dog Park. Winters here tend to run in the high 30s to low 40s and can be pretty damp. Summers, on the other hand, tend towards the mid-to-upper-90s with humidity averaging 90 to 100 percent.

Like the rest of Holly Hill, Riviera Oaks is flat with the exception of the slightly rolling hills built into the golf course. Thankfully, all of the streets have sidewalks and grassy berms for the two of you to walk along. For those of you who are up for long walks, there is a sidewalk that runs along Calle Grande St. starting at Golf Ave. and ends at Ridgewood Ave. Keep in mind that the pavement temperatures can reach in the 130s and 140s during the summer. Not only is this hot enough to fry an egg on, but it can fry the pads on your pup's paws in seconds, leading to severe burns and permanent damage.
Even if you are not up to such long walks, there are several blocks within the community to walk along. All you have to do is take different routes each day to keep it interesting!

To the south sits the Riviera Oaks Dog Park, a very popular gathering place for dog owners who come from all over to enjoy this park that opened in 2002. The park offers plenty of shade trees and benches for you to sit on while your pup goes off and plays with friends. It offers several doggie watering stations and a trail for you and your pup to enjoy. There are three separate dog areas for small and large dogs to enjoy. At one point, this park was a flood area that the city used to create a retention pond and the rest of the park.
If you really want a challenge, Tomoka State Park is only a short drive to the north but has miles of rugged trails for the two of you to tackle.
