Summerville is a residential neighborhood located in Augusta, Georgia. This historic area is also sometimes referred to as The Hill. It is home to the Summerville campus of Augusta University, several historic homes, an inn, a library, and a historic cemetery. Besides these landmarks, Summerville also has more modern amenities, like a performing arts center, several churches, several schools, a country club and golf course, convenience stores, and a handful of local restaurants and bars.

However, Summerville is largely a residential community known for its affluent residents and large, standalone, single-family homes. Adding to the unique nature of this community, these homes range in architectural style including Greek, Gothic, Spanish, and more.

Augusta has a subtropical climate, meaning the summers are hot and extremely humid while the winters are a bit more mild with little snowfall and only some chance of freezing rain. Spring and fall months tend to be more moderate in this Georgia city.

As this neighborhood is affectionately called the Hill, you can imagine Summerville is not the flattest of communities to walk around in! Most of the residential spaces have some rolling hills with some streets having significantly more changes in elevation than others. However, the Summerville campus of Augusta University seems to sit atop a hill as pedestrians will experience a notable increase in elevation while walking in direction of campus.

Thankfully, much of Summerville has well-maintained sidewalks to keep you and Fido off the roads while out walking. Additionally, there are plenty of mature, large trees throughout the neighborhood which are great for providing much needed shade during those humid, summer months.

The boundaries of Summerville are not linear, but include Sand Hills and Augusta National Golf Club to the north, Harrisburg, West End, and Midtown to the east, a complex of medical centers to the south, and Forest Hills to the west.

Unfortunately, there are really no greenways located in Summerville. At least not ones where our furry friends are allowed! The largest area is a golf course where our pups are not typically permitted, even if leashed. Another greenway located adjacent to the Summerville campus of Augusta University is actually a cemetery. A third greenway, located in the southeast part of Summerville, is actually the grounds for the Imagination Station Children's Museum, an interactive children's museum.

Thankfully, there are a few nearby parks in adjacent neighborhoods. These include King Park, Pendleton King Park, Westover Memorial Park, Big Oak Park, Chafee Park, Lake Olmstead Park, Carrie J. Mays Park, and Doughty Park. There are also quite a few nearby golf courses.

The nearest dog park is only one mile to the south of Summerville's southern border. Pendleton King Park's Bark Park has two fenced-in sections, one for smaller breeds and one for larger, making a perfect stop for any pooch!
