Atsena Otie Key

Atsena Otie Key is located in Florida and is a barrier island just outside of Cedar Key. The key and beach are open to the public - and your pooch as well. Although the beach is not big, you will find plenty of room to let your dog run and walk along the beach and the water. The sand is soft and clean despite some seaweed that washed ashore from the water. The beach does not get overly crowded, so you will have lots of room to spread out. 

At the beach, you will also find a dock, restrooms, and a fun trail for taking your dog for a walk. The trail leads you to a historic cemetery and the remains of the Faber Pencil Factory. The beach has a few, shaded picnic tables for eating meals and snacks or just taking a break from laying out on the beach. A playground for the kids sits on the key as well, and a small, grassy area is ideal for letting your dog go potty or run around a bit. Just remember they must be kept on their leash at all times. 

The beach is not near any large or busy roads, so you will have plenty of peace for your beach day with your dog. The swimming area for your dog is roped off and shallow, making it the best place for small dogs or dogs that do not like to go deep into the water. Poop bags may or may not be provided, so bring your own just in case you cannot find any. Always clean up after your dog and discard the poop bag in a trash can, which is located near the restrooms. Fresh, cool water is a must for your dog as well, so pack some bowls and bottles of water, so your dog does not get dehydrated from the heat, sun, and running around on the beach. 

Overall, Atsena Otie Key is a great beach to take your dog for some fun in the water and the sand. Just be aware there are snacks in this park, so always pay attention to your surroundings!
