Fort Myers Beach is a well sought after tourist destination. The city itself is incredibly dog-friendly with multiple dog parks. There is one in particular that allows your furry friend to run alongside the shore and splash around in the water. Run by Lees County Park and Recreation, the Fort Myers Dog Beach is located past the entrance to Lovers Key State Park, just before the New Pass Bridge on the west side.
Although strict on policies, Dog Beach has all the amenities any pooch could ask for. Provided by the County are clean up stations, doggie wash stations, port-a-potties for the owners' relief, and even free parking!
Unfortunately, Dog Beach isn't the biggest area and high tide can leave no room for sinking toes or paws in the sand without getting wet. Make sure to check the tide levels before heading out with your pup if you and/or your furry companion aren't fans of getting into the water. The positives about this dog-friendly beach are that your doggo can run off-leash and swim in shallow water for as long as their heart desires. This area is busiest on weekends, so if your pup isn't the social type, plan accordingly.
To ensure others get to continue to bring their dogs along for the fun, please be mindful of those around you. It is your responsibility to keep an eye on your dog. Pick up your canine's waste and dispose of it in the designated waste stations. If they seem to not get along with another animal, please remove them to keep everyone safe and happy! Due to strict laws that require your dog to be up to date on all vaccines, be sure to carry current health documentation with you.
