Looking for a pawfect way to spend the afternoon with your pup in the Fort Myers area? Head to spacious Fort Myers Beach on the Gulf of Mexico, where dogs are welcome to splash in the ocean, or sunbathe on the sand with you.
The beach in Fort Myers Beach is located along much of the western coastline of pawrific Estero Island below Bowditch Point Park. These white sand beaches are pupular with locals and tourists alike, and without sudden drop-offs or big waves, they are woofderful for everyone in the pack. There are 26 marked access points to the beach, meaning you can get to the beach down just about every side street off of Estero Boulevard, such as Flamingo, Dakota, Seaview and Miramar. Some of the streets offer public parking, and others even have clean-up bags to help you keep the beach clean of anything your pup leaves behind.Â
Dogs are allowed to romp anywhere along this 7 mile beach to their heart's content, but be sure to keep them on a leash of no longer than 6 feet in length, even in the water. Display your dog's license ID tag on their collar, or have the paperwork on hand.Â
All along the beach areas are plenty of accommodations, shopping and restaurants. Pack a bag of beach essentials with all you'll need for a day of fun in the sand and surf. Always have plenty of water to share with your beach pup. Extra clean-up bags are a good idea too. The northernmost area of the beach is shadier, so if you are further south, an umbrella may help to keep your dog cool.
