Once you arrive at the island, your dog can be off-leash on the beach most times of the year, except during turtle season when they must wear their leash at all times between sunrise and sunset. The season runs from May 1st to November 15th.Â
The beaches on the island are large and wide, making them the perfect place to let your dog run for miles. The sand is clean and soft and not rocky or uncomfortable to walk on. Along the beach, you will find dunes, some trees in various places that provide shade, and other hidden gems like boat marinas and old lighthouses. There are no public restrooms near any of the beaches, so you will have to walk and find bathrooms in one of the other areas of the island. You will find an outdoor shower near the marina.Â
There are poop bag stations scattered throughout the island, so you have access to easy cleanup methods when your dog goes to the bathroom. Always remember to clean up after your dog and discard the bag properly, so you keep the beach clean and sanitary for the other beach and island-goers. All dogs should be well behaved and non-aggressive towards other dogs and humans.Â
Overall, Bald Head Island Beaches are not just beautiful and clean, but they are also very dog-friendly and are the perfect beaches to let your dog run around and explore! You and your dog are going to love your stay!Â
