Barkin' Springs is a quirky scene and attracts an eclectic group of people and their pooches, but that is part of its charm! Though alcohol was once permitted on the beach, it is now strictly prohibited and enforced by the pawlice. Be forewarned that there are some people who like to enjoy the beach topless.
There is no sand at Barkin' Springs, but there is a large grass area leading down to a platform which is comprised of concrete and rocks. You and your main canine squeeze can relax in the grass and even enjoy a packed lunch from home there. Watch your tender tootsies on the concrete and rocks as it can get pawrifically hot and hard on the feet. When wet, it is also doggone slippery! The pool itself is subject to strong currents which can pull you and your doggo downstream.
To find Barkin' Springs, park in the lot for Barton Springs pool and walk on the outside portion of the fence. This will lead you towards the downstream area. There is a small hill that will take you along steps with an incline. Just past that is the entrance to Barkin' Springs. Be sure to keep your pup leashed, even in the water. Bring all the essentials for a puptastic day out, including drinking water and clean-up bags, and promptly pick up whatever your pup leaves behind.
If your pooch is in the mood for a swim, bring them to Barkin' Springs. You and your best canine pal can swim your blues away in a pool that welcomes peeps and their pups with wide open paws!
