This area that lays claim to the Oak Island Lighthouse, a sentinel providing protection for the coastline since 1958, and you are sure to get in a great workout by climbing to the pinnacle to snap some photos before taking the plunge into the crisp waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Whether Fido is a seafaring pooch or more of a land-lubber, he is welcome to join you in all areas of Caswell Beach. Best of all, from sunrise until 9 AM each day, Fido can romp, roughhouse, and play in the sand and in the surf without a lead! At all other times of day, you should be sure to keep your best canine pal on a leash to stay on fur-iendly terms with the North Carolina paw-lice.
Caswell Beach receives the least traffic of all of the Brunswick Islands beaches, meaning it is the pawrfect place for a quiet family getaway. You can relax on the shore and listen to the soothing sound of the surf, or roam the shoreline in search of seashells. Fancy a little fishing? You've found a wooftastic place to cast your line and reel in the catch of the day. But just in case the fish aren't biting, be sure have a backup plan which includes a packed lunch, bottled water, and some Scooby snacks for Fido too! You'll also want to throw in some cleanup bags, so you'll have some when you need them.
If you're extra lucky, you may catch a glimpse of a school of dolphins swimming amongst the waves. Between May and August, sea turtles also nest on the beach. You might even catch a glimpse of baby sea turtles making their first voyage out to sea.
