Finding a place to romp with your pup on the coast of Oregon is easy in Lincoln City. The D River State Recreation Site is a furbulous beach spot where dogs are welcome to kick up the sand and splash in the ocean with their favorite human.
With 4 acres of sun and sand, the D River State Recreation Site takes its name from the D River, known as the shortest river in the world. Flowing from Devils Lake into the Pacific Ocean, the 120 foot river is shallow, but steady over the sand along one end of the site.Â
This pawtastic beach offers some amenities to make your stay puptastic. A large parking area is right on site, but it can fill up quickly on busy days. Picnic areas provide places to munch a snack or meal, while restrooms are located in the parking lot, along with a drinking fountain. Bring a bottle or bowl for your pup's convenience. A short concrete path takes you from the parking area to the sandy beach, where you can swim, fish, or just sunbathe.Â
Dogs are welcome, but they do need to stay on a 6 foot leash at all times. Clean-up bag stations can be found along the fencing between the parking lot and the beach, but have a couple on hand just in case they run out. Always pick up whatever your pup leaves behind, and help keep this beach dog-friendly. Note that dogs should be licensed, tagged, and vaccinated before they come.Â
With restaurants and shops along the beach, and camping and lodging available in the surrounding areas, this Oregon gem is a pawrific find! Due to its windy conditions, the beach hosts famous kite festivals twice a year. Lincoln City is also home to Finders Keepers, where thousands of glass floats are placed on the town's beaches, including D River State Recreation Site, between mid-October to Memorial Day. Whatever glass treasures you find, you get to take home with you!
Head on down to D River State Recreation Area with your favorite pup for a furbulous time on the gorgeous Oregon coast!Â
