Dogs that are under voice control are able to run around off-leash with their pup pals between the day after Labor Day and June 15. Between June 16th- Labor day, your pup is allowed on the beach but has to be leashed. What's better? This sandy, sunny paradise holds special dog-related events like the annual Woodward Animal Center's Dog Surf-a-Thon.
This beach is open year-round, allows for pooches to enjoy the salt water (at your discretion), and has plenty of space for your pup to run free (during those specified hours).
In addition to North Beach, Powerhouse Park is also a great place for you and your pup to enjoy together! Because it's such a great spot, this area can get incredibly crowded, so parking might be hard to find on sunny days (be prepared with a backup parking plan, just in case)! Some things to note are that no dogs are allowed in Powerhouse Park from June 16th through Labor Day, while leashed dogs are allowed the day after Labor Day through June 15th. South of Powerhouse Park to 6th Street leashed dogs are allowed year round!
Remember that before you get to the North Beach area (aka the Del Mar Dog Beach) you'll need to keep your furry best-buddy on a leash that's no longer than six-feet. Once your pup gets to Dog Beach, you're good to let them off-leash as long as you're there during those specified dates. With public restrooms, steep and colorful eroding bluffs, and beautiful benches to relax and enjoy the sunset on, it's hard not to visit this spot every day with your four-legged best friend. We suggest bringing your own poop bags so you can clean up after your pooch!
