Before and after these two holidays, dogs are permitted on-leash at all times. Off-leash dogs are not allowed. The city decided to implement the new dog policy in order to alleviate as much conflict as possible and make the beach an enjoyable place for all. Dogs are not allowed north of the southernmost swim buoy during the bustling summer months, so please plan accordingly.
Grand Haven City Beach is a very popular wedding destination for a small fee of $25. All weddings must be held south of The Bil-Mar restaurant, and there cannot be more than 100 guests. In addition to weddings, Grand Haven City Beach hosts many other special events, including sand castle building contests, kite events, and pole vaulting.
The Lake Michigan beach spans an impressive 19.6 acres and boasts approximately 3,250 linear feet of public beach. The parking lot allows for easy access to the water, making it ideal for surfers, paddle boarders, kite surfers, and kayaks. There is also a viewing deck and stairway, picnic tables, and marked swim areas for those interested in cooling off! The beach connects to beautiful Grand Haven Waterfront Trail, giving beachgoers ample opportunities to soak up nature in the area.
Open dawn to dusk, there is no tree cover so be sure to bring an umbrella or easy-up for shade. The beach remains a favorite amongst dog owners, despite the change in hours and restrictions.
