Keewaydin Island

Keewaydin Island is a dog lover's oasis as it's the only location in Naples, Florida where you will find a dog friendly beach. The island is a barrier island for Florida that is only accessible by boat. A location close to both Naples and Marco Island makes this hidden gem a local favorite, as it gives both you and your pooch access to a beach on a secluded island. The Island itself is a nature reserve and part of the Rookery Bay Reserve, as it's home to various plant and animal species.

The island is a total of 8-miles long and offers you and your pup a unique experience, because on the island, you won't find a single vehicle. Cars are not permitted on the island and there are no bridges, which is why you can only arrive by boat.

You’re welcome to anchor your boat offshore, or bring it up to the island on the riverside. If you don't own a boat, both boat rentals and shuttle services are available. Shuttles like Hemingway Water Shuttle Service leave a marina on Marco Island and take you to Keewaydin Island in approximately 30 minutes. The island itself has no fee for entry, but depending on your travel method, there will be some form of cost incurred.

Although the island is rather desolate, this won't prevent you and your pooch from eating out. Situated around the island are various food boats that sell an assortment of items! Due to the islands unique nature, when you arrive, you’re likely to find secluded beach areas for you and your pup to enjoy all to yourself. From the coastline, you can watch boaters and water sports, or join in by playing beach sports. During your visit to the island, keep your pup on a leash at all times, even when in the water, and be mindful of tidying any waste they make!
