Doggos will love the long, undulating paved beachfront path named the Promenade where they'll meet other puppers, and engage in a little socialization and play. Less busy than THE South Beach, Lummus is quiet and mellow. Visitors can use the restrooms and water fountains that are provided for comfort, and many dog-friendly restaurants line the streets opposite the beach for refreshment and companionship. Just be sure to bring clean up bags.
One of Lummus Beach's matters of pride are the sea turtles that inhabit and breed on the beach. To create an atmosphere that is turtle-friendly, the city has installed dimmable lighting that is much more peaceful and less intrusive to the turtles than bright street lamps. Humans and their pooches find it peaceful, too! While dogs are prohibited from harassing the turtles or their young, they will be mightily interested in these strange, armored creatures that slowly make their way down the beach to the ocean every year.
A visit to Lummus Park Beach is just what the vet ordered for pups to entertain and tire them out. Get them out in the sand, sun and salty water!
