The beach at McDowell Nature Preserve is extremely doggo-furiendly. You may bring your fave pooch in all areas of this pawsitively awesome beach and park, but beach officials do ask that you keep your pupperoni on a lead at all times no longer than six feet in length.Â

With over 1,132 acres to explore, you will find lots of wooftastic hiking trails that travel over steep hilly terrain. The beach area offers lots of sand for you and your pupper to sink your tootsies into. You can enjoy sunbathing along the shore, taking a walk along the coast, or even throwing a line off one of the fishing docks to catch a fish or two. Fido is welcome to tag along too! Though doggoes are not permitted to swim in the crisp Lake Wylie waters, your pooch is welcome to accompany you on a kayak ride or on your fishing expedition in your boat.Â
There are lots of picnic benches at McDowell Nature Preserve. You will also find outdoor patios with grills where you can cook up a culinary delight for Fido and the fam to enjoy! Bring along a picnic basket that includes some meat for the grill, drinking water, and cleanup bags, and you'll have everything you need for your woofderful day of beachside fun!
Among the most pawpular attractions are beachcombing, wildlife viewing, canoeing or kayaking, picnicking, and fishing. You can even paddle out to view nearby Copperhead Island or take in the sights at the on premise Nature Center. Fido is welcome to travel with you by boat to visit Copperhead Island, but dogs are not permitted in the Nature Center as their presence may be frightening to the animals residing there. Be sure to being any essentials, such as water and clean up bags too!
