A large free parking lot and entrance to the beach can be found on Sloat Boulevard. If it happens to be packed, there is also street parking on the western edge of Sunset neighborhood near the Great Highway. Your pal will be leaping for joy at the sight of the beach!Â
Dogs are allowed off-leash on Ocean Beach except from Sloat Boulevard to Stairwell 21, where leashes are required. This is subject to change, so please keep an eye on the signs in order to avoid getting a fine. Pups need to stay under voice control to avoid disturbing the endangered Snowy Plovers that nest at this beach. Your doggos will have the time of their lives frolicking in the sand with their new four-legged friends!Â
The beach itself is very wide, with the widest section being at the north end near Golden Gate Park. It has hard packed sand, perfect for biking or jogging. The weather is often foggy and windy, even during the day, so you may want to dress warm! The water is dangerous for swimming due to cold temperatures and strong rip currents, so keep to the sand. On a chilly day, you can cozy up next to your furry pal at the bonfire pits, located between stairwells 15 and 20.
There are plenty of other furtastic features at Ocean Beach, including a promenade, paved bike lanes, sand dunes, and nearby eateries. Dogs are welcome at the beach with both paws, as long as the leash rules are followed, they're picked up after, and they stay respectful to others. Be sure to bring water and clean up bags for a pawtastic beach adventure.
Ocean Beach gets visitors raving and tails wagging every time!Â
