The First Landing State Park offers a ton in the way of recreation. Camping on sites and in cabins is available and doggo-friendly, for an additional fee. Pawtastic hiking trails that stretch for 19 miles through a variety of ecosystems such as swamps, marshes, wetlands, maritime forests, dunes and the beach will keep your furry explorer entertained.
If the beach is what you came for, you won't be disappointed! The bay waters are both calm and shallow in spots, making them the pawrfect spot for you and your best canine pal to do some doggy paddling. Your pup is allowed to splash in the water, and stroll the 1.5 miles of sand with you all year long on this quiet beach, on leash of course. This beach is not a crowded spot, lending itself well to a day of relaxation and fun. Don't forget to keep your eyes peeled for a glimpse of some rare birds, animals, and plant life that make this beach their home.
Access to the beach is over four pawrific boardwalks. Each boardwalk is connected to outdoor showers and bathrooms. Be sure to use the boardwalks and not walk on the dunes to help preserve the flora that grows here. When you pack your beach bag, don't forget to include bottled water, and cleanup bags to take care of any canine waste. A snack or two would never go amiss, and while you're at it, pack one for you too!
To get into the First Landing State Park, there is a $4 charge per vehicle, which increases to $5 during the weekends.
If a day of beach adventure was what you were hoping for, bring Fido and the fam to visit Chesapeake Bay Beach inside the pawmazing First Landing State Park. You'll wonder why it took so doggone long to discover it!
