Description

It’d be a huge faux-paw to try and explore everything Plainview, IL's Beaver Dam State Park has to offer on a day trip. The good news? The park’s Fido-friendly campground means that you and your pooch don’t have to! You won’t need to give up many of your creature comforts during your stay, either -- though water and sewer RV hookups aren’t available, the campground does have electricity and showers.

The campground’s location isn’t bad, either! Sites sit surrounded by gorgeous, mature oak and hickory trees which provide plenty of shade. Beaver Dam offers several ways to stay -- in addition to the standard sites, tent-only camping is offered in a separate area for those who don’t want to deal with the noise from their neighbors' vehicles. Two group sites are set aside for larger gatherings. There’s also a cabin available, but you’ll need to leave your buddy at home if you’d like that level of luxury. Although some of Beaver Dam’s campsites are set aside for walk-ins, it’s still best to make your reservation early. Nightly camping fees start at just $10, making this a budget-friendly vacation the whole family can enjoy.

You and your furry friend will find plenty to do during your stay! Unfortunately, the beavers that gave the park its name are long gone, but the lake created by the dam is a fantastic place for keen anglers to cast their line. You can expect to bring bluegill or channel catfish home for dinner, which you can cook on one of the grills provided with each site. The area doesn’t have much to offer serious hound-dog hikers, but the two-mile Beaver Dam Loop around the lake is well worth a wander and features some interesting side trails for you two to sniff and explore. Non-furry family members might also appreciate the playground.

Do your part to keep Beaver Dam State Park's campground pet-friendly for years to come and bring waste baggies to clean up after your barking buddy!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
