Located just a few miles northwest of Hampton, Iowa, Beed's Lake State Park is a peaceful recreation area that's easy to access all year round. Best known for its water-based recreational activities, the park also offers a popular campground, hiking trails, and the opportunity to enjoy a pet-friendly camping vacation with your four-legged friend.
Because this 319-acre park surrounds a 99-acre reservoir, it won't come as any surprise to hear that the most popular activities at Beed's Lake center on the water. There's a sandy beach for swimming on the south side of the lake, offering a chance to gain some respite from the summer heat. Anglers can target bass, catfish, and panfish all year round, while there's also a modern boat ramp provided for those who want to launch their watercraft out onto the lake.
A two-mile trail allows you to enjoy a scenic hike around the lake's shoreline and marvel at the water rolling down the beautiful limestone face of the dam. It's also a multi-use trail, so bicyclists, cross-country skiers, and joggers are also welcome.
If you're planning an extended stay, the Beed's Lake State Park campground features electric and non-electric campsites. It can get a little crowded during peak times, so you may want to time your visit for a quieter period if you're keen to get away from it all.
Iowa state parks do not charge entrance fees, but camping fees do apply and vary depending on the type of site you reserve. The campground is pet-friendly, provided you abide by all park rules regarding pets.
For example, you'll need to make sure your dog is on a leash of six feet or shorter and under control at all times, and that you always remember to clean up after your pooch.
Apart from that, all you need to focus on is enjoying all the activities and attractions this wonderful park has to offer. Sounds pretty grrr-eat, huh?
