Description

Blue Mesa Escape is a cozy, family-owned campground in Gunnison, Colorado that offers cabin and RV camping, as well as rustic tent-only spots. The campground overlooks the largest body of water in the state, the Blue Mesa Reservoir. Blue Mesa Escape sits at more than 7,500 feet of elevation, giving it the designation of "high desert." Everywhere you look, you'll be met with breathtaking views, and there's no shortage of recreational activities in and around the campground.

Pets are welcome to visit Blue Mesa Escape, but there are a handful of strict rules campers must follow. No more than two dogs can stay at any site in the campground, and an additional $5 daily fee per pet will be charged upon arrival. Pets are not permitted on the bedding or furniture in the cabins, and if extra cleaning is required, you'll be subject to a $25 fee. Dogs are never to be left unattended anywhere in the campground, including in the cabins. If this rule isn't followed, you'll be asked to leave immediately.

Cabins at Blue Mesa Escape are modern and fully furnished. RV sites have full electric hookups, as well as campfire rings and picnic tables. Tent camping spots are more rustic, but tent campers still have access to the bathrooms and showers at the campground. Blue Mesa Escape also has laundry facilities, a game room, and a playground. Campers can choose from one of 12 pull-through RV sites with full electric hookups, five tent-only sites, and six cabins. A tent-only site begins at $20 a night, RV sites at $40, and cabins at $110.

Anglers will find the Blue Mesa Reservoir has some of the best trout and salmon fishing in the state, and the reservoir is also used for boating. Just one mile from the campground you'll find boat rentals, a marina, and other supplies. Campers can also hike one of several trails around the campground, including the 3.7-mile Dillon Pinnacles Trail, which is dog-friendly.

If you plan to stay in a cabin in June, July, or August, a two-night minimum stay is required. Luckily, there's no maximum stay, because you're sure to never want to leave once you arrive at Blue Mesa Escape!
