Description

Located 64 miles south of Boise, Idaho, Bruneau Dunes State Park offers the chance to explore a unique and memorable landscape. Covering 4,800 acres, this beautiful park is home to the tallest single-structured sand dune in North America. The highest peak rises some 470 feet above the desert floor, and it's quite a remarkable sight that draws visitors from all over.

For many visitors, the highlight of any visit to Bruneau Dunes State Park is exploring the fascinating dune system. You can strap on your hiking boots and head out to investigate on foot, or rent a sandboard from the visitor center for some high-speed thrills and spills.

At the foot of the dunes, you'll find two small lakes, and fishing for bluegill in these clear waters is a popular pastime. Hikes and horseback rides are also available in the area and give you the chance to catch a glimpse of coyotes, scorpions, kestrels, hawks, herons, and more. Picnic sites are on offer if you're feeling peckish, while a visit to the Bruneau Dunes Observatory to gaze up at the spectacular night sky is another must-do for all visitors.

For those looking to camp out for a night or two, Bruneau Dunes State Park's campground features more than 110 campsites and two cabins. Facilities include a boat launching ramp, restrooms, and wi-fi Internet.

Pets are permitted in Bruneau Dunes State Park and are also welcome on campsites. However, before traveling with your pet, you'll need to familiarize yourself with park rules concerning four-legged guests. These include keeping your dog on a leash of six feet or less at all times, and remembering to always clean up after your pooch and leave no mess behind.

If you can fulfill these simple responsibilities, you and your dog are more than welcome to enjoy a relaxed camping getaway in this fascinating state park.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
