Description

Colorado is known as one of the best places for camping in the whole county, and if you want to see why, you should head to Cayton Campground. It is nestled in the sprawling woodlands of San Juan National Forest in the southwestern corner of the state, and countless campers flock to it every year because it has a great location with spectacular views of the surrounding area. Another great aspect of the campground is that it is dog-friendly, so you can enjoy your time there in the company of your canine companion!

There are 16 sites at the campground, and they can accommodate tents, RVs, and trailers. The fee for a nonelectric site is $24 per night, and the fee for a site with electrical hookups is $30 per night. On the premises, there are some useful amenities that will make your stay more pleasant: you’ll find picnic tables, fire pits, grills, and drinking water. You will also find plenty of ways to fill your time. Outdoor activities abound in the area, so everyone from avid hikers to casual anglers can find something to do. There are multiple trailheads you can visit for a hike or walk: Priest Gulch, Bear Creek, and Rio-Silverton are a few local favorites. The Dolores River right next to the campsite is also a great spot for fishing.

Before you head out to Cayton Campground, you should take note of a few things. Remember that there are both reservable and first-come-first-served sites at the campground. It is possible to acquire a site if all the reservable sites are booked, but it is not guaranteed. For those with accessibility concerns, there are four accessible sites, but three of these are available on a first-come-first-served basis.

You and your dog are sure to love Cayton Campground, and after your visit, you’ll return home with some wonderful memories to share!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
