Description

The campground at Cheyenne Mountain State Park makes it easy to immerse yourself in nature while still enjoying some modern conveniences. 51 full hook-up sites are available, giving you access to power, as well as 10 basic tent sites. A seasonal general store makes it simple to grab a snack or essential items like firewood and ice, and coin-operated showers and laundry provide access to running hot water, weather permitting.

During your stay at the Cheyenne Mountain State Park campground, make sure to keep your eyes open for wildlife. Elk, mule deer, and turkeys abound in the area, often being found resting under scrub oaks and ponderosa pines, or hiding away in the prairie grasses. The shrill barks of the native black-tail prairie dogs can alert you to a nearby colony, and you may even spot raptors like red-tailed hawks and golden eagles looking for a quick meal.

If you’re looking for a fun activity, consider making a stop at the park's archery range, which is open to the public from sunrise to sunset. You can also head out on the trails, which welcome horses, bikes, and foot traffic, allowing you to enjoy a stroll through the mature forest.

Some of the trails are even considered dog-friendly. Just make sure to keep them on a six-foot leash and bring baggies to carry out waste. There are predatory animals in the area, so you need to maintain control of your pooch at all times to ensure the safety of your entire party.

For those who adore the thrill of a treasure hunt, consider having a high-tech adventure and try your hand at geocaching. Several caches are spread out throughout the park, giving you the perfect excuse to explore the area and hone your exploration skills with a little help from hints on the internet. Just make sure to bring a trinket with you as it is customary to leave something behind if you take an item from the cache, ensuring everyone has a chance to find a little treasure when they reach the destination.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
