Description

Situated on the shores of the 4,500-acre, 21-mile-long Claytor Lake in Virginia, Claytor Lake State Park offers pet-friendly camping and recreational opportunities galore. The park itself covers some 472 acres and boasts three miles of beautiful lake frontage.

Pets are welcome in Claytor Lake State Park and its campground, but you'll need to remember to follow a few, key rules during your stay. At the top of the list is keeping your pooch on a leash of six feet or shorter at all times. Pets must always be supervised and are prohibited from designated swimming areas. Last but not least, make sure you clean up after your pet whenever necessary.

As you'd expect, much of the activity in this lovely park centers on and around the water. The park features a full-service marina with docking slips, supplies, and fuel, while boat rentals are also available if you don't have your own watercraft. Fishing and swimming are both popular pastimes here, but simply getting out on the water in a kayak or canoe is also wonderfully relaxing.

If you'd prefer to stay dry, Claytor Lake State Park features six trails for a combined total of seven miles of hiking and biking trails. All trails are easy grade and offer the ideal opportunity to explore the native plant life and keep an eye out for white-tailed deer, raccoons, squirrels, and a variety of birds.

If you're planning on staying the night or sticking around even longer, the park's campground features tent and RV sites, cabins, lodges and yurts. While your pooch isn't permitted in any of the yurts, they're more than welcome to join you in a cabin, lodge, or on your campsite.

Best of all, this gorgeous park is just a 10-mile drive from Radford, so why not pack up your pooch for a furr-ociously fun camping weekend at Claytor Lake State Park?
