Description

Codorus State Park is a family-friendly campground in southern Pennsylvania. With a variety of natural habitats, a large lake, a disc golf course, and pet-friendly accommodation, it's a park with plenty to see, do, and enjoy.

For many visitors, the 1,275-acre Lake Marburg is the park's best feature. With more than 25 miles of shoreline to explore, it's the perfect spot to catch a glimpse of a wide variety of migrating waterfowl and shorebirds.

There are seven boat launch ramps around the lake, with mooring spaces available to rent from April to October. Boat rentals are offered from Memorial Day through Labor Day, so you can hire a canoe, kayak, motorboat, or paddle boat for a few hours and get out on the water. There's even a swimming pool and sprayground found on a bluff overlooking the lake -- a feature kids love.

There are two hiking-only trails plus several other multi-use trails winding their way through the park, and the 3.5-mile Mary Ann Furnace Trail is a popular choice. Taking you from wetlands to deciduous forest and then along the shoreline of the lake, it also offers a pretty view over the park's campground.

If you're staying the night, the Codorus State Park campground is open from the second Friday in April until the start of November. There are 190 campsites available for tents and RVs up to 50 feet, and many sites come with electric hookups.

Pets are welcome on designated campsites for a $2 nightly fee, but must be leashed when outside your tent/camper and cleaned up after at all times. There's also a two-pet maximum per site.

There are also three cottages available, but only the Crab Apple Cottage welcomes pets. Cottages boast heating, electricity and bunk beds, but staying with your pet incurs an extra nightly fee of $3.

A pet-friendly yurt is also available and features a wooden deck, bunk beds, heating, a stove, and a refrigerator. A $5 nightly fee applies if staying with your dog.

Pennsylvania state parks do not charge an entrance fee, but the cost of your stay will vary depending on the type of accommodation you select. It's also worth pointing out that this is a popular destination and can get busy, so you and your pet will need to feel comfortable with crowds when visiting during peak periods.

Happily, sites and restrooms are clean and well-maintained, and all facilities are centrally located. So if you're searching for a pet-friendly campground with something for visitors of all ages, Codorus State Park ticks all the right boxes!
