Description

Sitting pretty in Pennsylvania's Fulton and Franklin Counties, Cowans Gap State Park is in the beautiful Allens Valley. Encompassing 1,085 acres of pristine terrain, the park offers excellent outdoor recreational opportunities all year long.

The main feature of the park is the 42-acre Cowans Gap Lake. You can enjoy a relaxing picnic on its shoreline, take a dip at the 500-foot sand beach, or try your luck fishing for trout, bass, perch, catfish, and panfish. There are two boat launches as well as mooring spaces available, while rowboats, kayaks, and paddle boats can be rented during the summer.

If you love exploring on foot, you'll find 13 miles of hiking trails winding their way through the park. These range from short half-mile treks through to sections of much larger hikes, such as the 110-mile Tuscarora Trail. And if you visit during winter, some of the park's trails are also suitable for cross-country skiing.

If you want to spend the night, Cowans Gap State Park features 10 rustic cabins available during spring, summer and fall, as well as 201 campsites spread across two areas. Three of the cabins and many of the campsites are pet-friendly, but make sure your pet is welcome on your chosen site before booking.

When camping with your pet in Pennsylvania state parks, keep in mind that your dog must be controlled and attended to at all times, as well as on a leash, in a cage, or crated. You'll also need to clean up after your canine companion whenever necessary and ensure that they don't become a nuisance to other park users.

Manage these simple responsibilities and you and your pet will have a paw-some time in Cowans Gap State Park. It's a lovely park to visit all year round, so why not stop by and enjoy everything it has to offer with your dog by your side?

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
