Davenport Campground

Davenport Campground is a single-family site campground nestled away in a cozy, forested valley in the Wet Mountains in Rye, Colorado. The tent-only campground primarily operates on a first-come-first-served basis, with only three out of twelve sites being available for reservation.  

The campground is situated on a grassy meadow, surrounded by pine trees and mountain views. Squirrel Creek runs alongside the campground, which makes the location even more scenic. However, since water attracts mosquitoes and other bugs, it is highly suggested for visitors to pack bug repellent. The Davenport campground is located at an altitude of over 8,000 feet, so nights get chilly even during the summer months. Pack warm clothing and plenty of blankets to stay warm and toasty and so that you remain comfortable as you stargaze in the evenings. 

The cozy campground features two double vault toilets, a water well with a hand pump, and trash receptacles. Unfortunately, the water supply has been cut off for the remainder of 2018, so make sure to bring your own and enough to last you the whole stay. There are hiking and biking trails, as well as fishing areas, making it a perfect destination for unwinding and quiet, relaxing weekends away from the busy city life. Half of the campsites are ADA accessible and three are equipped with log shelters. There is a shared common cooking shelter that features wooden picnic benches and a stone fireplace. You'll find a fire ring and charcoal grill at each campsite, as well as a picnic table.

Although Davenport is a dog-friendly campground, dogs must remain leashed at all times. Please make sure to pack enough waste bags for the entire stay and clean up after your four-legged companion. 

The campground is very popular so make sure to call in advance to check availability and show up early to reserve a spot.
