Description

Checking in to Fort Welikit family Campground could secure a front row seat to the adventure of a lifetime. Set in the grandiose black hills and a mile hike from Custer, a town steeped in American pioneer history, this award-winning campground pours on the charm to offer its guests a one-of-a-kind camping experience.

The accommodations are incredibly versatile, with level pull-through sites for RVers wanting hook-ups to electricity (20/30/50 amp), water, and sewer. Stately pines offer a canopy of shade and an enchanting forest ambiance. The average daily rate for an RV site is $43. Or, you can opt for a tent site if you prefer to "ruff" it. The nightly rate ranges from $25 to $30 for a scenic site among the trees.

The park features a mix of mountain cabins with a kitchen and bathroom. There's a relaxing porch for watching the local deer passing through or counting the stars on a clear night. Each cabin is fully furnished and sleeps from up to six guests.

If you ever wondered what it was like to sleep in a covered wagon, now is your chance to find out! This is an epic stay and wonderful opportunity for kids to get a glimpse of their forefathers' means of transportation.

The wild card has to be the ethereal Lakota Tipi, a beautifully hand-painted example of an original Native American dwelling. All campground sites include a picnic table and fire ring.

The friendly hosts know kids need a place they can call their own, so they created a unique playground close to a covered pavilion, ideal for family get-togethers and club events. Restrooms, showers, and a laundry are well-kept and clean.

Fort Welikit Campground and RV Park is a pet-friendly destination where dogs have a pawesome time. Thereā€™s a fully fenced dog park for off-leash fun and areas for daily walks. Outside the dog park, manā€™s best friend is required to be on a leash as wildlife makes this area their home. Bring litter bags and clean up after your pooch. If you want to rent a pet-friendly cabin the park asks for a $10 fee.Ā Their peak times are July andĀ August, when the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally comes to Custer.

If you and Fido want to explore all the unique sites this part of South Dakota has to offer, Fort Welikit Campground is the pawfect base camp for your adventures!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
