The undergrowth comprises of tree fern, poison oak, blackberries, and a range of native grasses. This also provides some privacy between campsites, which are cozy and adjacent to Gregory Beach. With a diverse landscape comprising of 5 wilderness areas, the Shasta-Trinity is California’s biggest national forest. It also has hundreds of mountain lakes and over 6,000 miles of rivers and streams. With high lake levels, the bank is a little sloped, providing access to the water. You get the best of fishing, boating swimming and watersports here. As much as you enjoy yourself, make sure to keep Fido on a leash and ensure they are attended to at all times. Also, bring poop bags and clean up after your pupper.
There are 18 campsites, available on a first-come-first-served basis, ideal for tents, small RVs, and trailers. Every site comes with tent pads, fire rings, grills, and a picnic table. While both tents and RVs can be accommodated, electric and water hookups are not available, neither are dump stations. There are no showers, but flush toilets are available, as is drinking water. Some sites get filtered lake views and you can minimize the freeway noise by choosing a site away from the entrance gate.
You can also catch a view of snow-capped Mount Shasta, which is the Cascade Range’s second tallest mountain. Anglers get nice game such as catfish, trout, crappie, and white sturgeon, among others. A public boat ramp is also available near the campground. You can check out the nearby Lakehead town, offering some nice shopping and restaurants. All in all, you and Fido are in for a nice outing at this park.
