Gun Creek Campground sits just outside of Whittington, Illinois, and it is a furrific spot for your next camping adventure with your dog! The campground rests on the shore of Rend Lake, a 13-mile-long reservoir that is known for not only for its picturesque blue waters, but also for its wealth of aquatic activities. You’ll love the scenic views around the campground as well as its well-kept amenities and numerous campsite choices. There are 100 sites at the campground, and there is also a group picnic shelter. The nightly fee for a site is $16 or $24 depending on which amenities you require, and the nightly fee for the picnic shelter is $25. The sites have electric hookups for RVs as well as fire pits, picnic tables, and lantern posts. You’ll find quite a few other amenities on the premises, including hot showers, seasonal flushing toilets, drinking water, a playground, and a boat ramp for the lake.
Rend Lake is the primary outdoor recreation site near the campground, and there, you can spend time enjoying fishing, swimming, or boating. Rend Lake Bike Trail is also nearby, and it is a great place to spend some time walking with your canine companion. The trail runs over ten miles and provides scenic views of the lake and forest. If you do decide to explore this trail, you may want to bring sunscreen — there is little shade along the way.
When you’re spending time at Gun Creek Campground, remember that your pooch should remain leashed at all times. Please clean up after your dog at the campground to keep it pet-friendly for years to come! Finally, note that registering with the campground attendant is required upon arrival; the attendant will give you tags for your site and vehicle.
