If you want to go camping with your dog near a peaceful lake, check out Haviland Lake Campground! Located within the San Juan National Forest, this campground has 43 shady campsites, and 17 of these sites offer electrical hookups. Haviland Lake has tons of amenities you and your pup will both love!
If you’re hoping to spend your camping trip out on the water, Haviland Lake Campground is perfect for you. Haviland Lake is a great place to go canoeing or kayaking. You can also travel around the lake in boats powered by electric troll motors — just know that Haviland Lake is a no-wake zone. If you’re a fisherman, Haviland Lake Campground has a fishing dock where you can try your luck catching rainbow and brown trout. A Colorado Division of Wildlife fishing license is required to fish at Haviland Lake.
Haviland Lake Campground is also a great choice for hikers, and there are a few different trailheads located a short walk from Haviland Lake. If you’d like to go on a short trek, try the Forebay Lake Trail. This mile-long trail begins in Haviland Lake Campground, and it takes you to small, secluded Forebay Lake. If you’d like to go on a longer hike, check out the Rico-Silverton Trail. This steep eight-mile trail takes you through two high mountain passes. As you’re walking, you’ll get amazing views of Rolling Mountain, Graysill Mountain, and Grizzly Mountain.
After you’re finished with your day’s adventures, you can enjoy the amenities at Haviland Lake Campground. Each campsite comes with a scenic picnic table where you can relax and take in the views of the lake with your pup. Every campsite also has a campfire ring where you can build your own roaring fire.
