Description

Hearts Content Recreation Area is a scenic campground located in the Allegheny National Forest. This campground features 26 shady campsites that all welcome pups on-leash. The daily fee for this fun-filled campground is $15.00. Please note that pets are not allowed on the beaches here.

If you and your pup are hoping to hike during your camping trip, Hearts Content Recreation Area is a great choice for you! This campground is home to a few great trails, including the Interpretive Old Growth Trail. This mile-long loop trail begins on the east side of the campground, and it takes you through an old-growth forest filled with 400-year-old white pine, beech, and hemlock trees. The trail ends at Hearts Content’s picnic area — a great place to relax and have lunch after your walk!

Hearts Content Recreation Area is also home to the trailhead for the Hickory Creek Wilderness Trail. This 11-mile loop trail takes you through the forest and over rolling terrain. As you’re walking, you’ll get stunning views of the Allegheny National Forest.

If you’re interested in learning about orienteering, check out the Hearts Content Orienteering Trails. Hearts Content Recreation Area features three orienteering trails: the 1.6-mile Introductory Course, the 2.1-mile Intermediate Course, and the 2.1-mile Advanced Course. Whichever course you choose, you’re sure to have a good time learning more about the sport of orienteering!

After you’ve finished your day’s adventures, you and your pup can relax and enjoy the campground’s many fun amenities. Each campsite features a picnic table and a campfire ring. Two of the sites also have lean-to shelters. If you get thirsty, drinking water is available at the campground.

Hearts Content Recreation Area is a picturesque forest campground that’s home to great hiking trails and beautiful, shady campsites. Bring doggy bags with you so you can clean up after your dog while you’re camping, and enjoy your trip to this furrific campground!
