Description

Horse Thief Campground and Resort is a one-of-a-kind camping destination. The 40-acre campground is located on what was once mining territory, giving it a touch of the Old West. Another key feature of this hidden gem is that it's located right inside of the famous Black Hills of South Dakota.

Dogs are welcomed at Horse Thief, but the campground does have a restrictive pet policy. Unfortunately, certain breeds aren't permitted, including Rottweilers, Pill Bulls,Ā and Chows. Aggressive behavior isnā€™t tolerated --Ā therefore, the campground reserves the right to ask any visitors who don't abide by the rules to leave without a refund. On the plus side, owners are free to walk their pooch within the park, as long as they clean up any messes they make and keep them on a leash at all times.

This resort is renowned for its generous amenities and flexible accommodations, with prices starting from $20.25 per night. Tent sites are an option and vary in their perks. They range from basic primitive sites with no hookups to sites with both water and electric available. Sites intended for camping vehicles can accommodate any camping vehicle smaller than 45 feet. These sites also come with various options as well. They range from basic sites with only 30 or 50 amp electrical services to fully loaded sites with water, sewage and electricity. All sites at Horse Thief come equipped with a fire ring and picnic table. If you want to experience all South Dakota has to offer without roughing it outdoors, check out one of the cabin rentals available. Keep in mind, though, dogs are not permitted in cabins.

When it comes to the perks of the resort, you won't be disappointed to discover a heated swimming pool, modern bathhouses, and a laundry area. Thereā€™s also a pavilion with gas grills that can be rented by guests. For more fun, check out the basketball courts, horseshoe pits, or playground. A stocked store with treats, firewood, ice,Ā and gifts is located right in the grounds for your convenience.

The Black Hills of South Dakota are a well-known tourist location waiting for you to explore. Stop by Horse Thief Campground and Resort along your journey and get a taste of the Old West complimented by modern amenities.
