Description

Are you looking for a camping retreat that's full of frolics through fantastical forests, exquisite equestrian adventures, and unfurgettable fun with your family and furry friends? Then you'd be barking mad not to stay at Houston Mesa campground! This splendid site welcomes both hounds and horses and has 74 campsites to choose from. Whether you need an equestrian site, a tent-only site, or a group site for up to 65 people, Houston Mesa has got you covered.

You'll find this captivating campsite nestled in the northern section of Tonto National Forest, which is the fifth largest forest in the United States. This wondrous woodland gets millions of visitors every year, and with plenty of lakes, reservoirs, and wildlife to spot, it's not hard to see why! Your barking bestie can join you on many of the terrific trails in Tonto National Forest as long as they're leashed, and since there's over 2 million acres of forest to cover, you can be assured that you'll never run out of room to explore! Just remember to pack poop bags and don't forget to pick up after your pooch, no matter where you are! Not only does this woodland provide a great space for adventure, but it's also the perfect place to have a campground because it keeps sites shaded, while also letting plenty of sunshine in. At Houston Mesa, you can enjoy sunny summers and breezy winters, and it rarely gets too hot or too cold!

If your hike-loving hound doesn't want to stray too far from the campground, then have no fear, because there are two pawesome promenades for you to try out. The 9-mile Houston Mesa Loop is not only a good spot for a stroll, but it's also a favorite among horseback riders looking to stretch those long legs! Looking for something shorter? The half-mile Houston Mesa Interpretive Trail is a self-guided tour of the gorgeous grounds, and there is so much fascinating flora and fauna to see along the way! When you're not hiking, you can enjoy a picnic with the family on the grill and tables provided or head to the popular local town of Payson for a shopping spree!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
