Even though it’s located right off of the State Highway 260, Payson Campground and RV Resort is a silent and tranquil location where visitors will enjoy the Ponderosa Pines and escape their daily routine. The weekends, however, are lively, with many planned events such as local band concerts and karaoke nights so you get the best of both worlds.Â
The resort provides 109 sites, 34 are tent only sites (and you can also rent tepee style tents), while 75 are RV sites with full hook-ups (water, electric, and sewer). Plus, for other home comforts, most sites support satellite TV. There are both pull-thru and back-in sites and most can host RVs up to 50ft in length. A dump station is also available on the premises and all sites are gravel and/or dirt sites but are level, well maintained, and easily accessible.
The site amenities include a sun deck and heated swimming pool, restrooms, hot showers, and laundry facilities. There is a clubhouse and a playground with a basketball hoop where children and adults can play, and the whole park has excellent Wi-Fi coverage for those who wish to browse or stream a TV show or two.
The area surrounding the resort is brimming with attractions and things to do. There are many hiking and bike trails, the most prominent being the Waterfall Trail on Fossil Creek. There’s a lot to do, like horseback riding, wildlife spotting, birding, water sports, and fishing. One notable attraction includes the Tonto Creek Fish Hatchery and Tonto Natural Bridge State Park, which are also located near the site. Those who want to get to know the local vibe will enjoy festivals and local events, or simply shopping in the nearby stores.
The campground welcomes pet owners and their dogs, but there are some rules to follow, such as keeping your dog on a leash that’s up to 6 feet long when going outside, and that your dog is never unattended. Remember to always pick up after your dog to help keep the area clean for everyone.
