Island Lake Campground

Island Lake Campground is located in Colorado's Grand Mesa, which is part of Gunnison National Forge. The campground sits 10,000 feet in elevation, giving it one of the best vantage points in the region. Island Lake is a medium-sized campground with thirty-nine campsites and group sites. Peak season runs from June to September, so you can expect the most amount of crowds to flock to the sites during this time. 

In the area, you are .10 miles away from Island Lake, have amazing views of Grand Valley, lakes, and forests. Campsites are mostly covered in dense trees providing lots of shade from the hot sun. You will have access to a whopping 3,000 miles of trails within Grand Mesa that you can easily access from the campground - you will never run out of new places to explore here! Mountains, plateaus, and mesas are always nearby and give you amazing views and photography options. You also have the opportunity to visit many historical sites located throughout the park that are fascinating and rich with colorful history. Some of the most popular activities in the area are hiking, mountain biking, fishing, kayaking, wildlife viewing, birding, sightseeing, and partaking in winter sports in the wintertime. 

At the actual campground, you will have access to both electric and non-electric sites depending on the camping vibe you are looking for. Campsites have picnic tables and campfire rings for your convenience. There are also vault restrooms, drinking water, grills, firewood, parking areas, and trash collection. Pets are allowed at the campground, but should wear their leash at all times and should never be left unattended. Poop bags are likely provided in the area, but bringing your own is always a good idea just in case there are none available at that time. Always make sure you have fresh water and a comfortable spot for your dog to sleep.
