Given the fact the Lake Irwin Campground sits at over 10,000 feet, the nights can be chilly, and showers are common in the afternoons. If you decide to bring your four-legged friend, make sure they have ample protection and a six-foot leash. The campground surrounds the stunning alpine lake, offering 30 sites, pit toilets, and firewood available for purchase. Many people opt to fish the lake during the day or take a kayak or paddleboard out to truly experience all the area has to offer.Â
If you want to explore Lake Irwin and the surrounding mountains by foot with your furry friend, you will undoubtedly be wowed by the extreme beauty in the basin above the campground, known as the Raggeds Wilderness. There are numerous trails within the Ruby Range that make for a great day hike right from the campground. This popular campground is heavily used, so reservations are encouraged. We recommend visiting between late June and October, as any earlier than that you may be met with snow! Crested Butte is also known for its mountain biking and wildflowers, as mentioned. Peak wildflower season is mid-July. If you aren't there during the Wildflower Festival, check out the visitor center and take a guided tour where you will learn all about the area's stunning vegetation.Â
