Description

There are lots of campgrounds throughout Colorado, but very few measure up to Matterhorn Campground. This campground rests outside of Telluride, Colorado, and it is one of the state’s premier destinations for tent and RV camping. It is especially known for its top-notch facilities, but its great location near sites for outdoor recreation like Lizard Head Wilderness also contribute to its outstanding reputation. The campground is a great choice for your next camping trip in southwestern Colorado, and you can even bring your pooch with you because the campground is dog-friendly!

The campground has 28 campsites, four of which offer electric and septic RV hookups. The nightly fee for one site is $24 for standard nonelectric. If you want a site with hookups, you will have to pay a higher rate of $36. The campground’s amenities are one of its best features, so you can be sure you’ll have a comfortable stay with your canine companion. You have access to fire rings, grills, picnic tables, flush toilets, drinking water, showers, and trash collection at the campground, and anything else you need can probably be found in Telluride, which is just seven miles away.

You also have access to numerous activities in the area. Hiking is a popular pastime, and one nearby trail you can explore is Galloping Goose Trail, which runs along parts of the old Rio Grande Southern Railway. There are also trails through Lizard Head Wilderness, so you’ll have plenty of places to go for hiking and wildlife viewing.

Please note that the campground’s opening and closing dates may change based on weather conditions. Also, dogs must remain on-leash at the campground. RVs must not exceed 45 feet.

You and your dog will have a blast camping at one of Colorado’s most highly regarded campgrounds, and you’ll see why so many experienced campers recommend it!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
