Mendota Hills Campground is a family-owned campground located in Amboy, Illinois. It is situated in an easily accessible location, near various attractions, and offers countless amenities and activities for visitors to take advantage of. With over 130 acres of open fields and rolling hills, as well as four lakes and an oak forest, the campground’s patrons get to enjoy a diverse terrain during their stay without having to leave the park’s grounds. The dog-friendly campground accommodates tent and RV camping and offers camper rentals.
Most of the sites are pull-through with water and electric (20, 30 and 50 amp), and sewer hookups are available. The sites either offer full or partial shade and plenty of space between the sites for a sense of privacy. Rates start at $32 per site. Forgot to bring some supplies with you? The campground features a camp store that is stocked with everything from firewood and bug repellant to ice cream. You can also enjoy a swimming beach with water toys and three fishing lakes that do not require a license. Patrons can also rent out kayaks and rowboats on-site for some quality time out on the water. If that wasn’t enough, there are multiple hiking trails and playing fields that are perfect for dog walking, or exploring the beautiful land on golf carts that are available for rent on-site.
There is a church service every Sunday and themed activities for both kids and adults to enjoy, from tie-dye weekends and bingo nights to talent show contests and vintage trailer rallies. For those who prefer being outdoors, must-visits include the on-site Gremel Wildlife Sanctuary, the Starved Rock State Park, and the Nachusa Grasslands, where you might encounter bison! What makes this campground stand out, other than the fact that it has plenty of amenities and activities, is the campground hosts, who not only are incredibly kind and make every patron feel welcome but keep the camp’s grounds pristine and taken care of.
