Mogote

Mogote Campground rests just outside of Colorado’s southern border, and it’s a great destination for anyone looking to camp in that area. It is located in Rio Grande National Forest, a huge expanse of woodlands, mountains, and valleys that encompasses nearly two million acres in southwestern Colorado. This amazing setting draws countless campers to Mogote each season, and it has earned its reputation as one of Colorado’s best. Because the campground is pet-friendly, you can bring your dog along for a furrific camping trip!

Mogote has a very laid-back atmosphere, perfect for taking your mind off of the stresses of daily life. The campground has 42 sites, and the nightly fee for a site is $20. Group sites are also available for a $120 nightly fee. At the campground, you will find a number of amenities, including drinking water, trash bins, picnic tables, and fire rings.  

You also have access to numerous activities while you’re staying at Mogote Campground. Many can be found at the Conejos River, which runs right beside the campground. The river is known as a great fishing location, and it is ranked as a Gold Medal River for its trout fishing potential. There are also some fantastic trails in the area: Elk Creek Trail and South Fork Conejos Trail are two of the most popular. If you want to hang out at the campground, you can find a volleyball court and horseshoe pits! Just note that you’ll need to bring your own equipment to use these facilities.

When you’re planning your trip to the campground, remember that the campsites don't have electrical hookups. Also, there is a strictly enforced 14-day stay limit. Dogs must remain leashed at all times as well.
