O'Haver Lake is a family-friendly campground in Salida, Colorado that sits at an elevation of more than 9,000 feet. The campground's 31 sites are nestled among towering pine and aspen trees, and, as its name suggests, it overlooks the 15-acre O'Haver Lake. Each spot can accommodate one RV or two tents, and up to eight guests are permitted at each campsite. Dogs are also welcome to come along to O'Haver Lake Campground, but keep your furry friend on a leash if they're not in your tent or vehicle.
Due to a lack of understory and space between campsites at O'Haver Lake, there's little privacy between sites, but most campers are too busy enjoying their stay to notice! Each campsite comes with a fire ring and grill, a picnic table, and a bear-proof food locker. Be sure to store all of your food in the locker to protect you and your fellow campers from bears, which are commonly seen in the area. Drinking water is available at the campground, but there are no hookups for RVs.
O'Haver Lake offers campers a prime fishing location where anglers can catch rainbow and brook trout. While the campground itself is not accessible, there is an accessible fishing pier on the lake, or you can fish from a canoe. Campers can also access a portion of the Colorado Trail near the campground. This trail spans nearly 500 milesĀ and connects eight mountain ranges in the state. You can walk your dog on a leash along this trail, and it's also open to mountain bikers and equestrians.
This pawpular campground fills up on most summer weekends, so be sure to book your stay in advance. If you're camping on a holiday weekend, you'll need to book a minimum three-night stay, and reservations can be made as soon as four days before your trip. Be sure to ask about a 50% discount if you're a senior citizen or a Golden Access Cardholder!
