Prairie Pines Campground is a public RV campground located in Rantoul, Illinois. It's situated in a country-like setting on what previously was the Chanute Air Force Base. It is easily accessible from both Route 45 and Interstate 57, two miles from the Hap Parker Aquatic Center. The roads that lead to the campground are paved and easy to navigate.Â
The pet-friendly campground accommodates RVs and does not have any tent sites. It is made up of 95 full-service campsites, with water, sewage, and electric hookups available. The sites are quiet, and most of them are spacious, providing patrons with enough privacy to feel like they are camping alone in the wilderness. There are trees scattered throughout the campground that cast plenty of shade. The campground also features some playground equipment for the furless kiddos! Prairie Pines is open year round, but water is turned off during the winter months -- you'll have to bring your own bottle.
The campground is equipped with well-maintained restrooms that feature flushing toilets, hot showers, and laundry facilities. However, the restrooms are open only between April and October, when the campground is at its busiest. Drinking water is available on-site. The campground also features ADA accessible sites, picnic areas, and restroom facilities. The campground’s surface consists of tall grass, so although the pooches will love rolling in it, make sure to check them for ticks afterward. The campsites start at $21.50 per night and include wifi.Â
On top of hiking and biking the various trails, patrons can get additional exercise at the Hap Parker Aquatic Center or the Forum Fitness Center, both of which are under two miles away from the campground. For fishing enthusiasts, the Heritage Lake provides plenty of opportunities for fishing and relaxing by the water. For other attractions and recommendations, feel free to inquire with the incredibly friendly campground hosts. Have a pawesome vacation!
