Dogs are welcome to accompany owners to Rafter J Bar Ranch, but un-fur-tunately, there are breed restrictions. Rottweilers, wolf breeds, Pit bulls, and Chows are not permitted to camp at this location. Rules for dogs visiting the park include cleaning up all waste and managing their behavior. Aggressive and loud dogs will not be tolerated and will be asked to leave the park. Keep control over your pup to prevent any issues during your stay.
There are a variety of camping areas at this campground, all of which come with different perks and amenities starting at $35.95 per night. Some of the camping areas do have bathhouses, such as Ranch Camp, whereas others are more primitive in nature and do not have access to bathhouses near the sites, such as The Islands.
Tent camping is permitted in a separate area than cabins and RV rentals. When tent camping, campers are asked to set up their tent on the dirt areas of sites, not the grass. Only one tent is permitted per site, and tents are not allowed on RV or cabin sites. All campsites come equipped with full hookup services and permit fires. Tents are only allowed in two of the camping areas. Cabin rentals are also available for those looking to upgrade their outdoor experience for a $10 fee per night.
When it comes to activities, being surrounded by the Black Hills mountain ranges makes it easy to find ways to spend your day. Take a soothing walk through wooded, maintained trails with your pooch that vary in difficulty and length. Trail information is available at the campground. The George Mickelson Hiking & Biking Trail is only one of many waiting for you to explore. Hiking anywhere in the Black Hills National forests is permitted, giving you thousands of miles of trails to travel. Fishing at one of the two nearby creeks in another guest favorite -- however, fishing licenses are required. Basketball and volleyball courts coupled with the playground are other ways to spend your day.
