Description

One of Montana’s most popular campgrounds is Rainbow Point. It rests just outside of Yellowstone National Park in Custer Gallatin National Forest, and this amazing location is one of the reasons why so many campers choose to visit it every season. There are numerous recreational activities in the area that provide visitors with lots of ways to experience Montana’s backcountry. You are sure to enjoy this pawesome campground — especially since you can camp there with your canine companion!

There many campsites you can choose from at Rainbow Point, and they fall into two categories: standard electric and standard nonelectric. The nightly fees are $23 and $16, respectively. There is also an additional fee of $7 if you want to have a second vehicle at your site. The campsites have campfire rings and picnic tables, and you can find additional amenities at the campground, including drinking water, a boat ramp, food storage lockers, a self-pay station, and firewood for sale.

Rainbow Point Campground rests beside Hebgen Lake, which provides campers with the opportunity to boat, swim, or fish. There are also lots of great trails in the area around the lake. One popular trail is Coffin Lakes Trail; this trail runs over 11 miles and welcomes furry paws! You and your pooch will encounter some scenic views of the woodlands, and you can also find some nice patches of wildflowers along the trail. Johnson Lake Trail is another great choice in the area — it is a bit shorter at 5.5 miles, making it pawfect for laid-back lapdogs!

Please remember to clean up after your dog at the campground, and be sure to respect the campground’s on-leash policy for pets. Note that bears live in the area, so you should store and dispose of food carefully and take any other necessary precautions. If you plan on hiking during the summer months, make sure you bring insect repellant — guests note that flies are a problem on the trails.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
