Way up 8,200 feet above sea level, you and 100 of your closest friends, family members, and fur-babies can congregate between red rock formations in the Colorado wilderness. Red Rocks Group Campground is a large, reservable site that lets larger groups camp together amongst the Ponderosa pine trees that dapple these highlands.Â
The grounds themselves do not offer many amenities, but they do provide drinking water and any type of vehicle can access the area with ease. No hookups are on offer here, but you'll be able to fit any size rig on the lot, as up to 44 vehicles can be accommodated. You'll find many small grills scattered around the large campsite, several picnic tables, and one large central fire pit. The facility costs $125 per night -- or day, depending on how long you are looking to use it for.
The main draw to this area is the many excellent hiking trails, so gather up all the pooches and head off into the woods! There is also a decent-sized body of water near the group site known as Lake Manitou which offers some aquatic activities for campers. You'll also find ample OHV and mountain biking opportunities within a few miles of the facility. For those that love great views, Pikes Peak is a short drive away and provides even more trails to hike on.
Four-legged campers are welcome at Red Rocks as long as they stay on-leash at all times. This is bear country, so keeping your dog with you throughout your visit is vital for their safety. Keep this in mind when on the trails as well, as a loose pup can easily be followed by a bear. Store all food and toiletries hidden in vehicles and properly dispose of all pet waste in the trash receptacles provided.
For any groups looking to get into nature, Red Rocks Group Campground is an excellent facility to camp together.
