Description

Virginia’s Ridge Runner Campground is nestled in the Appalachian Mountains, giving guests and their pups unforgettable panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Though Ridge Runner is a dog-friendly campground, un-fur-tunately, it has some breed restrictions. Dog breeds that are perceived as aggressive by the campground staff will not be permitted -- these include Pit Bulls, Doberman Pinschers, German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Chows, and wolf breeds. Furthermore, dogs aren't allowed to stay with tent or cabin campers, only those staying in an RV.

All other breeds are welcome, but owners must abide by the rules of the park. These include tidying up after your pup and never leaving them unattended. Owners are reminded that all dogs are expected to be on leash, well-behaved, and under control at all times. With these rules in mind, you and Fido are free to enjoy the abundance of activities available at Ridge Runner.

To start off, check out the hiking trails used by both backpackers and ATV drivers. This campground is actually right next door to Spearhead Mountain View Trail system, which is essentially an off-road highway for ATVs, dirt bikers, and side-by-sides. Within the multi-use trail system, you'll also find hiking trails that are safe for you and your pooch to explore -- without the risk of running into vehicles! Along the way, you can view wildlife and take in the mountain views that surround you.

Ridge Runner can accommodate tent campers, RV campers, and even those who don’t have equipment, as rentals are offered. Tent campers have the luxury of selecting a full hookup site or choosing to “ruff” it with Fido in an authentically primitive site. Each tent site has a fire pit, and there’s a common area with picnic tables and grills for guests to use. Tent sites begin at $25 a night, whereas RV rates start at $45. All RV sites come with full hookups. Wireless internet and cable are also available, but only in the RV camping area. All campers have access to bathhouses and firewood.

If you’re looking to press "paws" on your busy city life for a vacation in the Appalachian outdoors, it’s time you and your pooch check out Ridge Runner Campground in Virginia!
