Description

Head to Rifle Falls with your pooch by your side and explore the magnificent triple waterfall that looks more like a jungle oasis than a spilling stream. The water comes from the East Rifle Creek and pools in various places, causing the incredibly green plant growth, made up of shorter shrubs, wetland grasses, and deciduous trees.

A camping facility is set up just a short walk from the falls, further down the river. Here, you will find 13 sites fit for trailers and RVs and 7 more that you can access only by walking -- but these 7 are right on the water! During the off-season, sites start at $18 but jump to $20 from May until September. Campfire rings and picnic tables are provided at every site, and some of the drive-in sites also offer electricity. Drinking water is provided at several locations through the park, as well as a group picnic area, a conference room, and an amphitheater which are all reservable for any gatherings you may have planned.

The trail to the falls from the campground is well-maintained and easy to traverse, so getting to see this feature should be no problem at all. Take your pup on all kinds of walks, as there are other trails scattered throughout the grounds, all varying in difficulty. Fishing along the creek is also a favorite pastime, as brown trout can often be caught here. Be sure to check out the caves located down the trail from the waterfalls, which are filled with three different species of bats! The area can also be reserved for weddings -- because what makes a better backdrop for your special day than three waterfalls?

Your doggo is welcome to join you in this state park as long as they are always kept on-leash. While dangerous wildlife isn't prevalent in the park, bears, mountain lions, and coyotes are known to make an appearance from time to time. Be sure to attend to your pupper at all times and store all food and toiletries hidden in your vehicle. As always, do your part to keep this location clean by stooping and scooping (and disposing of all waste appropriately) while you're here.

If you'd like to stay on beautiful grounds unlike anywhere else in Colorado, Rifle Falls State Park is a great place for your next camping trip!
