Shady Creek

Shady Creek Campground is located on the bank of the Mississippi River in Muscatine, Iowa. The campground attracts many visitors every season because of its convenient location and awesome view of the river. Shady Creek Campground is also dog-friendly, so you can spend some quality time with your woofer while you enjoy the campground’s pawesome setting and the area’s furrific activities!

Shady Creek Campground is spread out nicely over 22 acres, and it has 54 sites total. The nightly fee for a standard site is $20, and a group shelter site is available for $25 per night. The sites all have 50-amp electric hookups, picnic tables, and campfire rings with grills. Some other amenities on the premises are showers, a boat ramp, a playground, an amphitheater, and a dump station.

The campground is a wonderful place to hang out with your dog, and you can enjoy the river’s aquatic activities right outside your tent! Anglers can access the river directly from the campground, and they can fish for catfish, bluegill, walleye, and more. Boaters can also use the campground’s boat ramp for easy river access.

If you’re interested in some other great activities, you can venture out into the area around the campground. There are two nice hiking locations nearby—Wildcat Den Trail is a loop trail that covers four miles. It welcomes dogs on-leash, and it is considered a moderate-difficulty hike. For a slightly easier hike, you can head right across the river to Lord Thunder Forest Preserve Trail. This trail spans just over three miles and has an elevation gain of 180 feet.

Make sure you are aware of the campground’s rules before your visit. Dogs must remain on-leash at all times. Please be sure to clean up after your dog as well. Also, note that you need to register at the fee booth on the day you arrive; the booth is open from 5 pm to 8 pm, and 9–11 am on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays (for holiday weekends).
